Run Against Violence Virtual Challenge

1300km, 200 teams of ten, 18 days.

Why? Because domestic violence is NEVER ok!

On September 18, Vanessa Jones (pictured above) along with 200 other teams of 10, completed this challenge to give a voice to children impacted by domestic violence. Too often children don’t have the chance to tell their own story. The RAV challenge this year asks our nation to stop, and listen to these young people.

“I’m so sad that this is something I need to run for, but I run because I can – and the pain and fatigue in my muscles will go away soon”, says Vanessa. “The scars of domestic violence are deep and sadly others will hurt a lot longer than I will”.

Singing the Right Tune

The groundbreaking and poignant theatrical musical, A Chorus Line is a joyful celebration of the trials and jubilations experienced when you put everything on the line to chase your dreams. A show like this production requires a complement of performers who can sing, dance and act – not an easy feat, but not for Louisa Mitchell a Health Promotion Officer at Link Health and Community, she played the part of Kristine to perfection.

Held at The National Theatre Melbourne for 9 performances only, Louisa who is a featured dancer and an award-winning choreographer, trained for over 3 months alongside 28 people for the dancing and acting role of Kristine. Louisa has a depth of experience and accolades with performances in Spamalot, Cabaret, and a choreographer for 7 productions including a Lyrebird nomination and award.

“To be involved in this acclaimed production which first begun in 1975 is a truly humbly and amazing experience” says Louisa Mitchell.
“This production continues to resonate with
so many people and I’m grateful for the
opportunity to work alongside some of the
best performers I’ve ever worked with”.

Tough Mudder Rock Stars

Described as “probably the toughest event on the planet”, a team of dentists, exercise physiologists, podiatrists, children’s practitioner and physios from Link Health and Community completed the Tough Mudder Half on Saturday 28th October.

Held over 10km of mud and obstacle courses designed to test physical strength, stamina and mental grit, including the famous “Kiss of Mud”– an obstacle crawling through mud and under barb wire and the “Solider Sling” (yes, they carried each other on their backs), even the strongest athletes find the course very challenging.

In preparation, the team met for 6am weekly training sessions and a dinner was held to get to know each other. On the day the team travelled first class on the Link HC bus, singing along to their specially created music mix. During the course, the team worked together and helped each other up, over and under the obstacles. Even though the 3 hour course was indeed challenging – the laughs, shared experiences and encouragement they gave to each other – more than made up for it.

It was a great day, with great people – a fun achievement and
highly recommended!
