LinkPETS getting Brutus off the couch!

brutus

Brutus is a big, bold and beautiful French Mastiff x Staffordshire Terrier who lives with Libby his owner.

Libby is visually impaired and finds it difficult to exercise Brutus. However, Libby was keen to change this and registered with the LinkPETS program to see if someone could help.

Brutus has since been matched with two newly retired, pet-loving volunteers and he is now officially off the couch and getting the exercise he desperately needs!

Libby has seen first hand the difference that LinkPETS has made to their lives.

“LinkPETS is a fantastic service, and the volunteer dog walkers are amazing and have their own special bond with my baby”.

It’s not only dogs that the LinkPETS program can help with – we also care for cats too! Our volunteers can assist with cat clean-ups, basic grooming and general support to help people care for their pet.

In another exciting development, Maternal and Child Health Nurses are now offering services as part of the Paediatric Hub to support parents and families to understand and manage their child’s health and development so they reach their full potential.

LinkPETS helping Tully make friends again

tully

Joyce and Tully make a great team, both with loving smiles and a great deal of time for each other.

Until recently, Joyce used to hop on her scooter and take Tully for a walk around the neighbourhood to socialise and keep Tully’s weight under control – given Tully’s great love for food!

Due to recent health issues, Joyce can no longer walk Tully. With these concerns in mind, Joyce contacted LinkPETS and asked for some help. LinkPETS were able to match Tully to some local pet-loving volunteers and Tully is now back pounding the streets again, socialising and making up for lost time!

Our special LinkPETS program can provide pet-loving volunteers to help with walking, basic grooming and cat/dog hygienic clean-ups.

Do you know someone who needs help caring for their pet? For more information, please call our LinkPETS Coordinator on 1300 552 509 or via www.linkhc.org.au

Innovative Program for Vulnerable Kids is a Winner

Each year, the Dental Health Services Victoria (DHSV) recognises innovative and pioneering ideas in the public oral health sector.  Link HC’s ground-breaking Keeping Kids Smiling program is the proud winner of the 2016 Oral Health Project of the Year.

The Keeping Kids Smiling (KKS) program was initially created to overcome oral health barriers amongst vulnerable children in the City of Monash. By using a mobile dental van in schools and kindergartens, the team is able to reach children who otherwise may not see a dentist.

KKS has far exceeded its objectives and within the last financial year, has visited 32 primary schools, 17 preschools/kindergartens and opened access to oral health education and care to thousands of children.

Parents were often unaware of their child’s dental problems and the children were able to receive timely dental care to address their problems.

“This is a fantastic achievement by the dedicated KKS team. They are tipping the balance in favour of prevention and early intervention, which will make a valuable difference in these children’s lives,”
– Dr Felicia Valianatos, General Manager for Link HC’s Oral Wellbeing Team.

Link HC’s Oral Wellbeing team’s innovative approach also opened a referral pathway for the  Monash Cancer Centre patients, in collaboration with the University of Melbourne. Link HC accommodated over 100 cancer patients, to see a dental professional and enabled them to commence cancer treatment in a timely manner.  The Oral Wellbeing team was a finalist for the DHSV Public Dental Clinic of the Year award.
